Dating in your 50s, when you’re not in your 50s, probably sounds like the best time in your life to date. Kids are grown, your house is paid off, you’ve got a boat, and a sports car, and you’re living life for all it’s worth!
You know the truth. Dating in your 50s is unsettling because living in your 50s these days puts you in a state of uncertainty.

It’s not unusual for people in their 50s to be stressed about work and money thanks to today’s economy.
Finances were supposed to be sorted out by your 50s, instead you’ve likely made a workplace or career change in the last ten years and had to start over without seniority. Your bank account isn’t where your financial planner wanted it to be, perhaps you’ve been through an expensive divorce, and you’re helping your kids get through post-secondary school. At this rate you’ll be working into your 70s, and not because you want to.
You may feel like you’re falling behind and experience depression. If not, be aware that it might be affecting the man of your dreams.
Add to that, turning 50 is the point where most people truly feel age as a burden. But you’re not old. You know that right? Look at Ellen DeGeneres, and Katie Couric. And Robert Downey Jr. Would you say they’re old? No, and neither are you.
You didn’t think you were old? Wonderful! I’ll wait while you take a look at RDJ anyway.
It’s not unusual to feel like you don’t deserve to find someone to share your life with. You don’t think anyone would want to.
I have to be blunt. Everyone has problems. Everyone. Absolutely everyone.
And anyone who says they don’t IS LYING. You don’t want to date that guy, anyway.
There are a lot of things in life that you cannot control, but there is one thing you can, and it’s the most important factor; you.
You control how you act, react, and move forward. If you’re feeling the strain of your finances, talk to a financial advisor. If you’re feeling unsteady from your divorce, seek out a counsellor. If you feel you’re carrying emotional weight on your shoulders, tell your doctor. If you’re stuck in a rut, call up your girlfriends and go out for dinner. Take the steps to be happy. You deserve it. And you deserve to find a man to share your life with; he’s out there looking for you, too.
You know what’s amazing about dating in your 50s? It’s fun!
You don’t need to hire a babysitter and be home before midnight! Laugh your head off at your kids’ giving you dating advice! Time to turn the tables on them and stay out until after curfew! You can speak your mind, say something outrageous, and not worry about what anyone else will think because you are so totally cool with who you are and the fact that everyone is different, and that different is good. Enjoy the romance and take all of the time you want to choose the right man; you’ve been rushing around your whole life, it’s time to slow down and enjoy what life has to offer.
Here’s what you can do going forward:
If he’s NOT ready to commit and you’re tired of this scenario, or just want to make sure your next kiss is with someone who’s ready, get a copy of No More Assholes and find someone seriously amazing and ready to commit. He’s out there, I promise.
This is the book that helps you avoid turning little things into big fights, and you’ll love how the advice inside helps you create the Magical relationship you’re looking for. Peaceful, cohesive, passionate, and intimate.
